IT'S TIME FOR GRAPES…

17-07-2024

Grapes are the fruit of the vine.

There are 12 basic and most famous types of grapes from which most of the world's wines are made. There are six black and six white grape varieties. Earlier, wines were labeled according to the area where the grapes are grown, but later the number of producers and areas with vineyards increased so much that labeling was introduced according to the type of grapes.
Cabernet sauvignon, merlot, nebbiolo, pinot noir, shiraz and sangiovese are the types of black berries that, along with various technological and chemical processes, will find their way to red wine lovers in their final liquid form. Chardonnay, Traminer, Riesling, black chenin, black sauvignon and semmilon are white berries ready for white wine fans.
Croatian wines have a history dating back to the time of the ancient Greek settlers and their wine production on the southern Dalmatian islands 2500 years ago. Like other old world wine producers, traditional grape varieties are still the most common in Croatia, perfectly adapted to their local wine hills. Modern methods of wine production have been adopted in larger vineyards, and as Croatia records 130 indigenous varieties, EU wine standards have been accepted, which also guarantees the quality of wine.
"Wine is the most useful of all drinks, the tastiest of all medicines and the most delicious of all foodstuffs," claimed the Greek philosopher Plutarch (45-125) - in support of which are many facts about the healing properties of wine, both from history and from modern times.
Therefore, in any part of Croatia you find yourself, do not miss to relax with a glass of good wine. In Istria with a glass of Momjan Muscat or Istrian Malvasia, in Kvarner with Žlahtina, Plavac mali or Pošip bijeli are mandatory in Dalmatia. If you decide to go to Zagorje, be sure not to miss the Rhine Riesling or Sauvignon white, while in Slavonia Traminac or Graševina should be part of your lunch, dinner or just part of a good moment, a break that deserves a toast. And how would we say  in Croatia cheers - Živjeli!
