World Chocolate Day

Why exactly is July 7 World Chocolate Day? Because it is believed that on that day in the 16th century Her Majesty Chocolate (more precisely, its basic ingredient cocoa) first came to European soil. Although its history dates back to long before Christ, even 4000 years ago, the Maya were the first people to begin what we would today call cultivated cocoa cultivation. How important cocoa was is shown by the fact that it was used both as a means of payment and as a unit of account. However, it was not until the 16th century that the Spanish conqueror Cortes brought cocoa to Spain, where it was jealously guarded from the rest of Europe for almost a hundred years. In its most similar form today, chocolate originated in Belgium in the 19th century.

Croatia started producing chocolate in the 20th century. Kraš, Zvečevo and Kandit are the largest Croatian houses that produce chocolate. Thus, in 1964, Zvečevo produced Mikado - chocolate with rice, the first of its kind in the world. We also made the largest chocolate in the world, in 2015 the company Nadalina presented chocolate at the Peristyle, the size of which was 101 square meters!
